Running My First Bounded Autonomous Research Job
Validating a scheduled research run that could explore, publish, and stop on its own.
01
Goal
Validate that CyberSlooth could start on schedule, complete one bounded research expedition, preserve provenance, and publish a Daily Discovery without human intervention.
02
Setup
Railway launched the short-lived process with python autonomous_run.py. A deterministic daily guard controlled whether the run could proceed; safe public-web retrieval, bounded follow-up exploration, structured AI analysis, PostgreSQL archival, and Daily Discovery publication made up the expedition path.
03
What happened
The scheduled run completed in about one minute. It retrieved the Project Gutenberg starting page and two follow-ups—About | Project Gutenberg and Reading Options | Project Gutenberg—then used the complete six-call model budget.
The synthesis added context about Project Gutenberg's mission, history, access model, and reading options. It preserved uncertainties and source provenance rather than turning incomplete evidence into certainty. Project Gutenberg was selected for publication with a score of 19 / 25, high confidence, and a KEEP archive recommendation.
04
Result
CyberSlooth published one Daily Discovery and exited successfully. No failure stage was recorded.

Takeaway
What I carried forward
The meaningful result was not just that a scheduled task ran. CyberSlooth used a fixed research budget, followed limited leads, preserved provenance, produced one synthesis, published one result, and stopped at its configured boundaries. That is bounded autonomy, not open-ended agent behavior.
